Ingredients
  

Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Herbed Cheese Sauce

  • 1 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

To Serve

  • 4-6 pieces pita pockets, lightly warmed or toasted
  • Extra parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Filling Preparation

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sauté until softened.
  • Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in mushrooms, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and oregano. Cook until mushrooms are tender.
  • Remove from heat and mix in mozzarella cheese and parsley. Let cool slightly.

Herbed Cheese Sauce Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine sour cream or Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, parsley, dill, minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

Assembly

  • Fill the warmed pita pockets with the beef and mushroom filling.
  • Drizzle with the herbed cheese sauce and garnish with extra parsley if desired.

Notes

These pita pockets are perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a hearty lunch. Adjust seasoning according to your taste.
